IRS Targeting

On May 10, 2013, the Internal Revenue Service apologized for scrutinizing tax exempt organization applications which included the words "Tea Party" or "patriot".  This has raised serious concerns from both Republicans and Democrats alike.

Koskinen will be the sole witness at Wednesday's hearing, which is the result of an agreement between Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and House Freedom Caucus Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) to postpone a vote on an impeachment resolution that was expected last week.

The fact that Koskinen is being heard from at all on Wednesday is due to Freedom Caucus members pushing the issue in the face of clear hesitation from House leaders, including Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) and Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), over whether Koskinen’s conduct rises to the level of impeachment.
