What is a Wage Garnishment?

The IRS, in an attempt to collect past due taxes, sends notice to the Taxpayer’s employer called Notice of Wage Levy. The Notice of Wage Levy requires the Taxpayer’s employer to withhold a large percentage of the employee’s pay check and forward it to the IRS.  

Will the IRS release the Wage Garnishment?

Generally, the IRS will release the Wage Garnishment if the Taxpayer is in full compliance with all tax filings and the Taxpayer agrees to some collection alternative such as an Installment Agreement, Offer-in-Compromise or Currently Not Collectible status.
